IBDP 2023 results: GIIS students forge ahead to success

GIIS SMART Campus IBDP 2023 cohort has done us proud by showcasing their academic prowess in the recently announced DP results. By doing so, our diligent and committed IB graduates have joyfully become part of the IB community consisting of more than two million lifelong learners located in 159 countries.

The GIIS Singapore cohort achieved a school average of 35.9 points, surpassing the global average DP score of 30.24 points and Singapore’s average score of 35.05 points. According to the IB, the grade distribution profile has closely returned to pre-pandemic norms, aligned with other international awarding bodies and university expectations. 

A total of 38 GIIS students have achieved scores above 40 points in the recently announced IBDP results, showcasing their commitment to academic excellence. Shraddha Praveen and Praneeth Suresh have distinguished themselves as World Toppers by achieving a perfect score of 45 out of 45. 

Furthermore, 5 students from the cohort have obtained near-perfect scores of 44 out of 45. The average grade of students at the school is 5.6 as compared to the global average IBDP grade of 4.84.

With over 100 World Toppers and Near Perfect scorers till date at GIIS, these outcomes serve as evidence of the steadfast commitment, resilience, and unwavering passion displayed by our students throughout their two-year academic journey. 

Our dedicated and experienced educators have undoubtedly played a pivotal role in fostering these brilliant minds, helping them unlock their capabilities for this pre university programme. And, we truly acknowledge the continuous support from the parent community towards this successful journey.

Steady student success

As a top international school in Singapore, GIIS has been providing the IB Diploma Programme to secondary students since 2005, and is not selective when admitting students, especially to those who have to make sudden moves across countries. Our journey has been filled with success, even during the challenging years of the pandemic. 

In 2022, 10 students emerged as IB World Toppers and 16 as near-perfect scorers with a school average of 38.6 points. Our class of 2021 broke all previous records with 16 World Toppers and 9 near-perfect scorers with a school average of 38.82 points. 

Set for top university destinations

Over the years, GIIS IBDP students have successfully made it to the top universities in the world, including the US, UK, Singapore and India. As a pre-university programme, IBDP prepares students for the rigours of university life by laying strong emphasis on applying knowledge to real world scenarios. 

Some of the top universities from where our IBDP 2023 students have received offers include Oxford University, Imperial College, London School of Economics, King's College in the UK, UCLA, Georgia Tech in the US, University of Toronto, University of British Columbia in Canada, University of Melbourne in Australia, National University of Singapore, NTU, Singapore Management University in Singapore, among others. Few of our students have received full scholarships from Rice University, Davidson College, Washington & Lee University, University of Calgary.

Our IB-trained educators together with our in-house career counselling staff nurture our students for future success. GIIS faculty members serve as mentors, guiding students through their IBDP journey, providing individualised attention, and fostering a deep understanding of the subjects. 

Through classroom sessions, open discussions, and constructive feedback, our IBDP teachers constantly motivate students to reach their full potential. GIIS Singapore SMART Campus principal, Ms Melissa Maria’s journey as an educator started when she was only 16 and continued in the field after she completed her Master’s degree in History and Bachelor’s degree in Education. For over 25 years now, she has been at the forefront of introducing new ideas and methodologies to education. She is also the City Coordinator for Singapore, selected by the CBSE Board for Grade 10 and 12 exams, 2021, managing two other international schools besides GIIS. With numerous achievements sprinkled across her distinguished career, Ms. Maria has been recognised for her efforts as a Mindef volunteer by the Singapore government.
