Learning environment

By definition, robust refers to something that is healthy, strong and vigorous. When used to describe a learning environment such as a school or classroom, a robust experience has multiple aspects to it, including a forward-thinking curriculum or a choice of curricula, trained and dedicated teachers, and resources which allow students to explore and thrive.

While there are many factors that influence a learning environment and make it useful and enjoyable for students, here are some of the key elements of a good learning environment:

● Does it encourage exploration and inquisitiveness?

● Does it meet students where they are academically and guide them to higher levels of learning?

● Does it encourage creativity and innovation?

● Does it lead to overall growth and well-being of the students?

● Does it feel safe and inviting?

Qualities of the robust learning environment at GIIS

At GIIS, we achieve the objectives of a good learning environment in multiple ways, including:

State-of-the-art technology

Singapore is a digital-first nation, which implies that we're preparing our citizens, including our students, to thrive and be successful in a primarily digital world.

In GIIS Singapore, this is demonstrated by SMART technology which includes our wifi-enabled campus,  use of educational apps for enhanced learning, smartboards, skills studios with augmented reality and quick online connectivity for uninterrupted learning.

Additionally, GIIS students not only learn how to operate technology but also how to be good and responsible digital citizens.

Forward-thinking curricula options

GIIS currently offers a variety of quality curricula designed to accommodate different learning styles and learning outcomes.

These include the Global Montessori Plus programme for our preschool learners, the IB Primary Years Programme (IB PYP) for students in Grades 1 through 5, the Cambridge Lower Secondary Programme  (CLSP) for Grades 6 through 8, the Cambridge IGCSE for Grades 9 and 10 and the IB Diploma Programme (IBDP) for grades 11 and 12. We also offer the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), as an educational option for students in Grades 1 through 12.

Holistic developmental approach

Academics are essential at GIIS but so are other aspects of a child's education. What this means for students is that we nurture them in more areas than just academics. We believe a well-rounded education is critical.

For this reason, students at GIIS have access to training in music, dance, visual arts, sports, leadership, entrepreneurship and service learning. Students are also encouraged to use the skills they've developed at school to affect positive change in the community.

GIIS uses its 9GEMS framework to encourage participation in measure student success in nine critical areas, including:

● Academics

● Sports

● Visual and Performing Arts

● Personality Development

● Innovation and Creativity

● Entrepreneurship and Leadership

● Universal Values and Ethics

● Community

● Skills Development

We follow a holistic model of instruction that fosters achievement in all areas of a student's life. For example, we believe a student's mental health is as important as their physical health.

To this end, we mentor students and motivate them to adopt a positive approach to learning. Students also have access to the GIIS Healthline for confiding in a trusted adult or to deal with issues like stress, anxiety or anything else beyond academics and school. (For GIIS Singapore, the healthline number is +65 9723 4938)

Trained and dedicated teachers

The faculty and staff at Global Indian International School are all highly trained and experienced. We believe the characteristics we expect from our students should also extend to our faculty.

They model the attributes of honesty and integrity both in and out of the classroom. Their dedication to student-led learning is part of what sets GIIS apart from other international schools in Singapore. Additionally, GIIS educators are quick to reward students for outstanding efforts and offer constructive feedback when needed.

Positive and diverse learning culture

Another important feature of the GlIS experience is our commitment to fostering a healthy, inclusive and diverse school environment where everyone feels valued and cherished.

We accomplish this through our core values of respect, integrity and ethical practices. In addition, GIIS regularly provides opportunities for students to talk about and showcase their traditions and heritage through multiple events throughout the academic year.

At GIIS, we place a huge emphasis on how our students feel and interact inside our school environment. To this end, we strive to foster a warm and inviting learning space that acts as a sort of haven as well as a functional learning environment. We believe learning outcomes are always better when students feel confident to take the lead in their learning.

If you're interested in becoming a member of the GIIS family, we would love to tell you more about how we're changing the face of education in the 21st century. Please don’t hesitate to schedule a campus tour today.
